Burt is a magician, and his partner, Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) grew up as best friends and got through their adolescent years watching magic tapes from Rance Holloway (Alan Arkin). Once they grew up and became legitimate magicians, their friendship started to die. And their act begins to crumble with the arrival of Steve Gray, an obnoxious magician similar to Criss Angel who has a show called "Mind Rape". Which are sort of what Jim Carrey's scenes are like. When he speaks, it is absolutely hilarious. But most of the time he is on screen, he is sticking a drill in his head or cutting his face open or holding his urine for a few days. Olivia Wilde plays Jane, Burt's new assistant (they go through assistants very quickly). Burt calls her "Jessica" because Jessica was the previous assistant, and he also tries flirting with her. James Gandolfini has some hilarious moments as the owner of the casino that Burt and Anton reside at.

The supporting cast is pretty good featuring Malin Ackerman, Mark Valley, Danny Huston, and Josh Lucas who seemed to take over with the over the top delivery here. While a bit silly at times, Lucas character still works decently. What really make this film work at all are the decent action and the clever robbery scenarios. It has become pretty rare to deliver something all that interesting in film bank jobs, but here they did some pretty creative stuff.$

The hook for this movie is whether or not Silver\'s psychic powers are genuine, or whether his simply another fake, and the audience is kept guessing (and kept guessing very well) for the length of the movie. But there are other good things here - the story never proceeds exactly as you expect it to, there are some very unexpected turns in the path taken, and you are kept engaged all the way through, with a satisfying ending. It must be said that once you think about it for 10 minutes afterwards, the whole thing falls to pieces, but that doesn\'t diminish the enjoyment you got from it while it was in progress. Weaver is good - probably as good as she has ever been - De Niro is solid, and Murphy is OK, albeit somewhat hamstrung by what the plot requires Buckley\'s character to be. Elizabeth Olsen and Toby Jones are both good in supporting roles. There is an unpleasantly violent sequence towards the end, which went beyond what I felt was necessary to achieve its purpose but, otherwise, I enjoyed the telling of this story.$

Carlos (Oded Fehr, great), Luther West (Boris Kodjoe, good) and Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts) also return in style. Who gives a show is China\'s Li Bingbing (\'The Forbidden Kingdom\'), who lives Ada Wong, Wesker agent that fights alongside Alice. Very comfortable in the role, she will win over fans of the games and movies. Johann Urb also shows great talent as Leon Scott Kennedy. The sequence in which Alice appears as a simple housewife in the suburbs is the best, showing that what is missing is the action excessive leave aside and return to the horror genre - Anderson seems to know that driving with more wisdom. \'Resident Evil 5: Retribution\' will appeal to fans of the franchise and action movies, with breathtaking sequences and doses of suspense and laughs volunteers - but starts to show some wear. Is your brain off and watch a dazzling game without being in charge of the Joystick.$

The direction by John Hillcoat is wonderful, bringing the same grit and style that Hillcoat brought to the underrated,overlooked western The Proposition and his other underrated film the Cormac McCarthy adaptation The Road.
